After series of protracted training workshops with different personnel in the past weeks, “06/07/2022 saw the last training session on protection against sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) in the context of Transport Sectors Development Projects (TSDP)” with the training of administrative core of BUNS (executing company), and personnel of STUDI INTERNATIONAL (the control mission in charge of the verification of quality of works on the Babadjou-Bamenda road).

06/07/2022 training session on PSEA, Babadjou.

In total, 18 personnel from BUNS and STUDI INTERNATIONAL were trained during this last session on PSEA in CIPCRE’s conference hall at Babadjou; 11 personnel from STUDI INTERNATIONAL, including 03 females, and 07 persons from BUNs.

The overrule objective of the training sessions organized by CIPCRE to train all those involved in the rehabilitation works on the Babadjou-Bamenda road entails to limit cases of sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) that could be committed by workers

in the zone of work and throughout the period of project execution, and to set up a conducive environment against SEA. Thus, glancing through the whole training sessions carried out, it is noted that 185 BUNS’, and STUDI INTERNATIONAL’s personnel, (including 11 STUDIS’s personnel) were trained in different groups, and in six sessions.

In the last training session with the administrative core of BUNS, and STUDI’s personnel, emphasis was made on the need for putting at their company, “a PSEA focal point” and setting a conducive environment protective against SEA, and for the director to make sure this environment is sustainable and functional. Generally, all personnel trained have been called to respect the six core principles on PSEA, while playing their roles in the fight against sexual exploitation and abuse, and highlighting the zero-tolerance policy as stipulated by UN. These principles are:

  • sexual exploitation and abuse by workers
  • sexual activities with children
  • The exchange of money, employment, goods or services for sex
  • Any sexual relationship between those providing humanitarian assistance
  • Obligation to report if any employee suspects a colleague of engaging in sexual exploitation or abuse
  • Responsibility for employees for creating and maintaining an environment that prevents sexual exploitation and abuse

To conclude, CIPCRE will work frequently with the company’s focal point as a means of follow-up to ensure effective respect of PSEA principles by personnel on the field.
